DORIS MAZIWISA

Wilderness Safaris Rwanda Hospitality Support Manager

Doris’s wonderful energy and positive attitude, where nothing is ever too much trouble, have contributed to her Wilderness success. Starting out in Wilderness Botswana, she will now use her skills in her new position at Wilderness Rwanda. Her passion for people and the Wilderness Way have positively touched many lives.

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Doris knew from a very young age that she wanted to be part of a community that positively impacts people’s lives. Growing up, her family believed in the importance of obtaining an academic qualification, which led Doris to South Africa to study Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Working in restaurants during her university holidays fueled her growing passion for the hospitality industry.

After graduating from UCT, back in her home town Doris was offered a managerial role at the Holiday Inn Harare. Eager to progress, she continued working and studying part time through the Swiss Hotel School South Africa in Johannesburg.

Doris’s enthusiasm to make people smile was simply not enough, and she now knew she wanted to positively change their lives too. After moving back to South Africa to work, Doris joined Wilderness Safaris Botswana in 2019 as Executive Housekeeping Manager at Mombo Camp. Hitting the ground running, she was assigned one understudy, but quickly took on another as she was inspired to train and develop her colleagues’ skills. Her two students have since successfully trained for the camp’s Anchor Programme, a Management initiative focused on departmental theory and practical training. In 2021, Doris was promoted to Relief General Manager for the Vumbura Private Wilderness Area, where she spent the next nine months dedicated to mentoring and sharing her knowledge with the community and staff, a job she excelled at.

Doris’s hard work and dedication at Wilderness Botswana have contributed greatly to her career growth. In 2022, she accepted a new challenge at Wilderness Rwanda, taking on the role of Hospitality Support Manager. Doris will use her skills acquired in Botswana to help grow and nurture her new team in Rwanda.

“I am very excited to be part of the Wilderness Rwanda team. It is a real honour to be so involved with the community in training and development, and changing lives the Wilderness way”, enthuses Doris about her new opportunity to touch even more lives.
