Get to know me in 8

  1. Name and job title: Siobhan Dammert, Wilderness Namibia Food Experience Manager.
  2. Describe yourself in three words: Passionate, caring and engaged.
  3. Favourite things to do in your spare time: Being a very family-orientated person, my spare time revolves around being present with my two young girls, building memories. We are fortunate to live in Namibia where the bush and trails are on our doorstep. Hiking and cooking are definitely an integral part of my spare time.
  4. What talent/superpower would you love to have: A supersonic multitasker, and perhaps being in multiple places at the same time?
  5. Favourite wild animal and why: Water buffalo, they exude such strength, grace and serenity.
  6. What is one thing that instantly makes your day brighter: It may sound like a cliché, but food in all its stages of growth, production and especially eating; it brightens my day. When nourishment and pleasure find a common platform, every meal can be the highlight of your day. And of course, coming home to my children!
  7. An accomplishment that you are proud of: Completing my Culinary Master’s in German.
  8. Tell us one story or memory that you have while working at Wilderness: It seems to be a culmination of experiences in most camps, whereby we are cooking shoulder-to-shoulder with the chefs, creating and collaborating, and the magic of getting to know these individuals. It truly feels like a high when you’re in the thick of service and can create something unique to Namibia and present this to the guests who are here to experience every facet of this beautiful country. Another story, while training in Hoanib, I stepped out of my accommodation one morning only to find Charlie the lion, literally a few feet away. She stopped and turned to look at me for a good minute. It was the closest, most exhilarating yet humbling wildlife encounter. What a majestic animal.

Thank you for sharing your story with us Siobhan!
