Wilderness Regional Finance Officer – Kenya and Rwanda
Lawrence joined the Wilderness Rwanda operation on 01 September 2021 and Wilderness Kenya on 01 March 2023, following his passion for conservation tourism and community development.
Lawrence grew up in Zimbabwe, where he commenced his studies in Accounting, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe, as well as subsequently from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Herriot Watt University’s Edinburgh Business School in Scotland. A love of adventure led him on travels throughout Southern Africa as well as some parts of East Africa, sparking his passion for the region.
A shrewd hotelier, Lawrence began his career with Zimbabwe’s largest, and at the time, fastest-growing hotel group. He started his articles of clerkship training with the group, and after qualifying, was placed in positions of responsibility, including group budgeting, reporting and refurbishment projects. His last assignment with the group was running the finances of an autonomous partnership that was established to manage its flagship 5-star hotel.
Lawrence subsequently enjoyed a stint outside of the hospitality industry working for NGOs, initially joining the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe, followed by a valuable incumbency with African Parks. His love for nature and community development was awakened, and Lawrence hasn’t looked back since heading off on his adventure in Rwanda.
As Wilderness RFO, Lawrence is dedicated to continuing the company’s successes in Kenya and Rwanda.
“I am extremely delighted to be part of the team that changes lives through its journeys, and look forward to growing the Wilderness brand in East Africa, together with the amazing teams we have in Kenya and Rwanda”, Lawrence notes.
