Get to know me in 8

  1. Name and job title: Lucy Lopez, Wilderness Head of PR.
  2. Describe yourself in 3 words: Perfectionist, resourceful and adventurous.
  3. Favourite things to do in your spare time: Run, get out into nature and be a tourist in my own city.
  4. What talent/superpower would you love to have: I’d love to be able to do something significant about climate change.
  5. Favourite wild animal and why: Almost impossible to say, but I’d probably choose a leopard, simply because they’re so gorgeous and so elusive, which makes it very special to see one.
  6. What is one thing that instantly makes your day brighter: Getting out for a run first thing, I have a beautiful running route full of trees and birdsong.  It puts me into the right space for the day ahead.
  7.  An accomplishment that you are proud of: One of the most successful projects I’ve ever been part of is the media launch of Bisate in 2017. As a team, we generated some incredible coverage in the likes of Financial Times How to Spend It, Condé Nast Traveller, Bloomberg Pursuits and many others. For me, the highlight was having Bisate included in TIME magazine’s World’s Greatest Places. On a personal note, I’m proud of going back to study and achieving a certificate in Digital PR, which is something I did during the ‘Covid years’.

8. Tell us one story/memory that you have while working at Wilderness: So many stories and memories gathered over 20 years, but one of my favourites has to be when I took my son to Pafuri Camp (which used to be part of Wilderness) when he was six years old, his first bush experience. I wasn’t sure how it would go but we had the most incredible guide who had a SpongeBob figurine in his vehicle and who could make objects appear out of bread rolls at dinner. My son sat up front with him on game drives and all I had to do was sit back and watch him fall in love with the bush. One evening we found ourselves surrounded by a breeding herd of elephants and we all just sat perfectly still and took it all in – a truly magical, unforgettable moment.

Thank you for sharing your story with us Lucy!
