Lindy Nieuwenhuizen
Children In The Wilderness Group Co-ordinator
With more than 20 years’ experience in the non-profit space, Lindy oficially joined the Wilderness Family in 2022. She brings many amazing life experiences and journeys with the children she has worked with, from her days at Cotlands, CHOC-Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa and Just Footprints Foundation. Lindy looks forward to positively impacting sustainable conservation through leadership development and the education of children in Africa.
A Johannesburg girl at heart, Lindy is no stranger to Children in the Wilderness, having volunteered on the Tour de Tuli event for 11 years, and on numerous children’s annual camps. She also volunteers for The Leopard Conservation Project, Underdogs SA Pitbull Rehabilitation Center and has worked on projects with Wildcon Safaris and Global Supplies.
Lindy’s non-profit journey began at Cotlands in 1998, where she spent 12 inspiring years in various roles including Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Cause Related Marketing, Promotional Products and Business Venture Manager.
Lindy joined the Just Footprints Foundation in 2010 as Camp Director, a role she held until 2017, where she progressed to Executive Director of Operations. Working in close partnership with the design team at HKLM Brand Agency, Lindy contributed to the establishment of the company’s brand.
Dedicated to making a real difference, through her work at Just Footprints Foundation Lindy worked closely with the late Paul Newman’s organisation, SeriousFun Children’s Network from 2012. Her support included annual children’s camps throughout South Africa, hospital programmes, bereavement assistance and family camps. Still actively involved in the foundation, Lindy travelled to the US in 2023 to attend the annual American Camp Association conference held in Orlando, where she worked alongside the SeriousFun support team. Lindy was motivated by the volunteers she met on the trip and the selfless work they do with children, war veterans and disadvantaged communities.
Lindy loves exploring opportunities for collaboration and building impactful joint ventures through Corporate Social Investment partners, including sponsorships. “This is an exciting path to ensuring sustainability and growth, inclusivity, accessibility, diversity, and lasting impact”, she says.
Lindy is very excited for her next chapter at Children in the Wilderness, adding: “Dedication to people, wildlife, and the Earth’s wilderness are my greatest passions. When you have the good fortune to work in this amazing environment, the possibilities are endless”.
