Joining Wilderness in 2022, Rose brought with her 25 years of experience within the Talent and Development workspace. Rose’s skill for managing complex HR initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders and driving positive change within organisations has equipped her with a deep understanding of HR best practice, compliance, employee relations, and project management.
Rose grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed her schooling at Boksburg High School. Passionate about all things sport, Rose studied for a National Diploma in Sports Administration and Marketing from the Tshwane University of Technology. Eager to explore the world, Rose moved to the United Kingdom and completed an Honours Degree in Business Operations and Sports Management at London Metropolitan University. She graduated in 2003 with first-class honours – no mean feat! Rose also made her mark as a representative on the London Metropolitan University and Tshwane University of Technology student bodies.
Rose embarked on her career path with sports-related roles in South African schools before venturing into the corporate world. Her career experience has extended across England, the United States and South Africa. She has also worked as an independent consultant for a self-owned consulting business that specialises in Organisational Development, Project Management, Business Operations and Skills Development for internationally renowned corporates, including EOH, GlaxoSmithKline, Liberty Group and Murray & Roberts Construction.
During her career, Rose completed several industry-related courses, including four Labour Guide South Africa certifications.
Her Wilderness journey began in 2022 as an HR Specialist, before moving on to acting SA HR Manager. Through these roles, Rose gained valuable knowledge and insight into Wilderness, its people and operations.
In her new group role, Rose is focusing on performance management, recruitment, talent acquisition and development for the team. She has initiated the Grow – Perform – Succeed platform for staff, whilst managing each person’s career path, providing a clear talent- and succession-planning process for every role and division within the business.
Rose is a keen ultra-distance runner, having completed many gruelling races, including six Comrades Marathons, eight Two Oceans Ultra Marathons and four New York Marathons. Rose enjoys attending major sporting events and it was a dream come true to attend the London Olympics in 2012. Rose is married with three children – twins and their sibling, all born on the same day, two years apart. An avid photographer, the bush is her happy place, and she fondly recalls a self-drive trip with her brother around Chobe National Park in Botswana, sleeping in two one-man tents, as one of her most incredible wilderness experiences.
Rose is very excited for her next Wilderness chapter and says, “The wild areas which Wilderness protects, and the lives which they positively impact, acutely resonate with my purpose to care”.
