Word from the Wilderness Sociable Weavers

How you can help promote Wilderness’ social media reach and engagement

It’s no secret that social media is a powerful tool for Wilderness to connect with our audience, build brand awareness, and drive engagement. And while we have our own dedicated social media team, it’s important not to forget that as an employee you can play a crucial role in expanding the reach and engagement of our social media efforts. Here’s how.

Follow and share

The simplest way to get involved is simply to share and engage with our content. Follow us on @wearewilderness from your personal social media accounts to help amplify our reach and encourage others to do the same. Your authentic enthusiasm and endorsement will help increase our engagement levels and we love seeing staff commenting or getting involved in appropriate conversations.

Just remember, when sharing and promoting company content on your personal social media accounts, it’s essential to strike the right balance. Be selective in what you share and ensure the content is relevant to your own following. Add a personal touch by providing insights or comments that reflect your perspective (within reason!). Be genuine in your interactions. Remember, it’s not just about promoting Wilderness, it’s about building meaningful connections and fostering authentic engagement.

Send us your pictures and videos

As our guides and eyes on the ground, you often have the opportunity to capture stunning photographs of wildlife, landscapes, and unique experiences while leading tours in the wilderness. Our social media team needs to see these images! Not only so they can escape from the world of stats and scheduling for a few moments but so they have authentic, real, viral content to share. This is the type of content that can help attract potential travellers looking for memorable safari experiences.

Send your images to our social team at news@wildernessdestinations.com; alternatively we can add you to our dedicated regional and centralised WhatsApp groups. Simply email us your number and we will add you to the groups.

Please don’t be disheartened if we don’t share your content right away; we normally work a month to two months in advance, so be assured we’ve saved it and we’ll use it at a time where we can ensure maximum engagement.

Make use of our geolocations, mentions and hashtags

In order to share your created content we need to be able to find it. Geolocations on social media allow you to tag your content to a specific place in the world. Social media users often use geolocation data to discover new and interesting places.

To add a geolocation to your social posts, simply put your post together as you normally would but before publishing look for an option to add your location when composing your post. This option is usually represented by a location pin. You can then choose from a list of nearby places, or search for a specific location.

Here at Wilderness each of our camps has been added as a geolocation on social media so you can easily add your own posts to a specific location even if you aren’t there. Are your posts more relevant to a region than a specific camp? Simply search for Wilderness Botswana, Wilderness Namibia, etc. in the location, and tag that.

Also don’t forget to mention us on @wearewilderness when sharing your own posts on social media and be sure to make use of our standard hashtags. Not sure what those are? Check out our previous post on hashtag use as a guide.

Doing all of this will make your personal posts more discoverable to our social team.

Pitch us your story ideas

You’re also experts in your field. Want to educate the public about wildlife behaviour, conservation efforts, or highlight the beauty and biodiversity of the areas around camp?

Want to share an update, have an idea for something we should promote, or know of a noteworthy sighting that we should be sharing on social media? Don’t forget to tell us about it! We want to hear from you. And don’t stress about not being able to wax lyrical like some of our sales team, we’ll take what you’ve written and add the finesse and final touches so that it matches our brand tone.

Challenge us

New social media platforms and features pop up faster than you can say “hashtag.” Think there’s a new platform, exciting feature, or something we need to be aware of? Let us know! Chances are we’re already working on a strategy in the background but we’d be happy to debate the challenges, merits and opportunities with you. Remember, being adaptable and willing to try new things is the key to staying relevant and successful in the ever-changing world of social media. We’re always open to new ideas.

Ready to get in touch? Be sure to keep connected with us and share your sightings on the We Are Wilderness group on Facebook,  join our WhatsApp group, or pop us an email on news@wildernessdestinations.com if you have anything you would like to discuss directly. They say that birds of a feather flock together, and on social media, the same principle applies. Together, as a team, you can help elevate our online presence and strengthen our connections. We can’t do it without you.
